We want to make sure you get the most out of your time in Dubrovnik, so we’ll ask about your interests, what you want to see and do, eating choices, any equipment you’ll need, and what kind of work schedule you want to keep. We’ll provide you plenty ideas and suggestions for your free time.

Arriving in Dubrovnik

Welcome to Croatia! Upon your arrival at Dubrovnik Airport, a driver will meet you and drive you to your apartment. The drive takes about 30 minutes. Depending on your arrival time your Dubrovnik Local Hero will meet you after you check-in, or the following morning. At this time they will provide you with a local SIM complete with data as well as a public transport pass to cover you for the duration of your stay.

You’ll appreciate the dedicated workspace in your apartment, and the reliable high speed wifi. We can arrange for an external screen or other tech accessories to increase your productivity. During your stay in Dubrovnik

We’ve got you covered with endless additional ideas and services to make the most of your stay. You can request any of the optional extra tours, excursions and getaways to be added to your Workation package now, or at any point after booking

Included in every Dubrovnik Workation is a 7 Day Dubrovnik Card. This comprehensive city card provides free entry to many of Dubrovnik’s main attractions including the City Walls (over a $30 value). Besides the Walls, you’ll have access to Fort Lovrinac, as well as many museums and galleries in Dubrovnik. You can activate the Dubrovnik Card any time during your stay by visiting one of the sites it allows access to. You then have seven days to make use of all the benefits afforded by the card.

We can include a month’s membership at a well equipped gym close to your apartment in your Workation package to help you keep up good habits from home.

If you’re already working with a personal trainer, you know how invaluable they can be to insure you maximize your workouts. We realize finding an English-speaking trainer who understands your needs isn’t always easy in Dubrovnik, so we’ve done our research. For an additional fee, we will arrange a private personal trainer for you to better keep in shape.

Please ask your Workation advisor for the cost to add these to your package

We are able to arrange a variety of experiences which will both immerse you in the local culture and provide unforgettable memories. Dubrovnik is known for water sports and we are happy to arrange a variety of options including kayaking, SUP and scuba diving. Otherwise pick up a new
language, perfect your favorite sport or try something new, discover your talent with dance or music lessons, indulge yourself in spa & wellness treatments or hire a business coach. The options are endless and we are happy to help you take full advantage of your time away.

Your first weekend: Getting to Know Dubrovnik

If you’ve been working hard all week, now is the time to appreciate your surroundings and mingle with the locals a little. Your local hero will already have pointed out some of the city’s popular spots for locals and foreigners. It being your first weekend, it’s time to do the touristy thing and we’ve got some suggestions for how to spend the whole day in and around Dubrovnik’s Old City. After a walking tour that’ll give you some historical and cultural background, we suggest ticking off all the other must-dos: walking the city walls and taking the cable car to the top of Mt Srd for some killer sunset views. The following day you can get to know Dubrovnik even better, by learning some local dishes or enjoying a peka feast with locals.

Dubrovnik is truly a gem of the Adriatic and has been on UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List since 1979. We recommend taking a private 1.5-hour walking tour of the Old City, covering its most important spots. It’s an ideal way to get oriented in the city and set yourself up for further exploration.

Continue your day in Dubrovnik after the tour by getting an all-round and from above perspective. The timing’s up to you, but we’d advise against walking the walls in the middle of a hot day. Walking the circumference of the ancient city walls themselves will give you some spectacular views of the town from up close. It’s a bit of a climb to the top of the Minceta Tower, the highest point of the walls, but highly recommended.

Take a ride on the cable car up Mount Srd’ to take in even more stunning views. You’ll find the bottom station of the cable car by exiting the city through the Buža Gate. Sunsets from here are out-of-this-world and the prices at the cafe-restaurant at the top are surprisingly reasonable.

What better way to make yourself feel at home than by eating, and cooking, with locals? As Paul Prudhomme said – “You don’t need a silver fork to eat good food”. This is especially clear in Dubrovnik, where you don’t have to go to a fancy restaurant to have a great meal. Experience something completely different while in Dubrovnik. Join us for a dinner in Marija’s home and eat as locals do or go to Konavle region and enjoy a cooking class with an authentic family, we are sure you will enjoy either experience. Take your pick of either of these delicious experiences and we’ll include it in your Workation package.

Meet & Eat Peka with locals

The best and the most authentic meal you can have in Dubrovnik is definitely with a local family. We’ll secure you a spot for a Dalmatian dinner experience with Marija, an expert home cook whose cooking and food knowledge was recognized by the Wall Street Journal and National Geographic. Indulge in an enchanted evening of learning about real Dubrovnik and Dalmatian cuisine. Marija will prepare a multi-course meal with a local highlight, peka – a traditional style of cooking usually translated as “under the bell” and accompanied with great local wines.

Konavle Farmouse Cooking Class

A cooking class in the Konavle countryside, the rugged region between Dubrovnik and Montenegro, is a great experience for those who want to learn how to prepare traditional meals. Apart from Croatia’s hospitality and beautiful scenery, gastronomy is the one of the country’s main draws. After this class you’ll have a priceless souvenir of your time in Dubrovnik and some new dishes to try out on your friends back home.

Ideas for the rest of your Dubrovnik Workation

Optional Day Trips – The Best The Sea Has to Offer

Elafiti Islands Cruise

Explore Croatia’s Elaphiti Islands by boat and finally see for yourself the picturesque beauty of its white stone villages, luscious green pine tree forests and of course, the pristine Adriatic Sea. Oyster Farm & Winery Visit

Make the Most of Your Time, Before and After Work

Max Your Mornings

Make the most of being in one of the most beautiful towns in the world, and right on the sea too. We’ve got plenty of suggestions for maximizing your free-time in the mornings, if you’re keeping US working hours. Get active sea-kayaking or biking. visit nearby small towns or hike Mt Srd’, the steep slope overlooking Dubrovnik. Get up super early for a photo shoot with a local professional photographer. You can be behind or in front of the lens!

Electrify Your Evenings

Ever wanted to party in a fortress? Now’s your chance to dance the night away in a medieval fortification. If you prefer your evenings more sedate, we have ideas for that too. It should be no surprise that Dubrovnik has a wealth of bars with killer views, and some perfect date-night restaurants too. Whatever your jam, your local hero is on hand with suggestions to make every moment of your free time memorable.

Optional Weekend Getaways

You couldn’t wish for a better location for weekend getaways. UNESCO-hunters and country counters can enjoy ticking off a couple more with ease. Within two hours drive south-east you can be in Kotor, a UNESCO-listed walled city on Europe’s southern-most fjord. The same distance north-east will take you to Mostar, in Bosnia-Herzegovina, a city famous for its Ottoman-era stone bridge. Staying in Croatia, the sleepy vineyard-covered Peljesac peninsula and the island of Korčula are in easy reach. To truly get away from it all, hop on a ferry to Mljet – most of the island is a National Park. Whichever direction you head, we can take care of everything, from transportation, accommodation and guides to dining recommendations.
