Arriving in Krakow

Sasha, Prague Local Hero

Welcome to Poland! Upon your arrival at Krakow Airport, a driver will meet you and drive you to your apartment. The drive takes about 30 minutes. Depending on your arrival time your Krakow Local Hero will meet you after you check-in, or the following morning. At this time they will provide you with a local SIM complete with data as well as a public transport pass to cover you for the duration of your stay.

You’ll appreciate the dedicated workspace in your apartment, and the reliable high speed wifi. We can arrange for an external screen or other tech accessories to increase your productivity. We will also stock your apartment with all the necessities (e.g condiments, bathroom essentials, cleaning supplies) to start your stay off smoothly. You’ll be pleased to note that weekly cleanings are included in the price.

Orientation Walk with Your Local Hero

Upon arrival, your local hero will help you get settled and show you around your new neighborhood. He will inform you about what this part of the city has to offer. You will be introduced to the local shops, bars, and restaurants as well as other facilities such as gyms, parks, and other entertainment based on your specific needs. She’ll also help you get a feel for your location and the connections to other parts of the city using your public transportation pass. She’ll even help you install some useful local apps. Learn a new skill or focus on your passion

We are able to arrange a variety of experiences which will both immerse you in the local culture and provide unforgettable memories. Krakow’s past century has been eventful. Students of 20th century history can take advantage of being somewhere that witnessed the horrors of the Holocaust and then decades of communism. Otherwise pick up a new language, perfect your favorite sport or try something new, discover your talent with music lessons or hire a business coach. The options are endless and we are happy to help you take full advantage of your time away.

Your first weekend: Getting to Know Krakow

If you’ve been working hard all week, now is the time to appreciate your surroundings and mingle with the locals a little. Your local hero will already have pointed out some of the city’s popular spots for locals and foreigners. It being your first weekend, it’s time to do the touristy thing and we’ve got some suggestions for how to spend the whole day in and around Krakow’s historic center. After a walking tour that’ll give you some historical and cultural background, we suggest ticking off a few more must-dos: a walk in the Wawel Castle grounds and a walk around the old town, through the Planty park. The following day you can get to know Krakow, and Polish culture even better, by taking a food tasting tour with a group of like-minded travelers.

Optional Excursion: Krakow Private Walking Tour

Today you’ll be getting a feel for the story of the city with a private tour with a local expert. There’s much to discover as you walk the famed Royal Route through the city’s heart, on this tour filled to the brim with historical facts and anecdotes. You’ll wander from the Barbican and St. Florian’s Gate to the spectacular hilltop royal Wawel Castle, visiting the Main Square with its Cloth Hall and St. Mary’s Basilica along the way.

Explore on your own after Your Tour: Wawel Castle and Planty Park

Continue your day in Krakow after the tour by continuing on to Wawel Royal Castle. It might seem unassuming at first but this castle on a hill is one of the most important cultural and historical sites in Poland. For centuries it was the residence of Polish royalty.

Krakow’s old town is encircled by the Planty Park, a strip of green in the center of the city. It’s the perfect place to run, stroll, or make occasional stops at the many cute cafes along the way.

Ideas for the rest of your Krakow Workation

Krakow is surrounded by interesting places to visit, some more uplifting than others. One of the most frequently taken day trips from the city is to Auschwitz, but you could also get deep underground in the Wieliczka salt mine, or hit the heights of the Polish High Tatras with a trip to Poland’s most popular mountain town, Zakopane. We’ll help you make the most of your spare time here, so you go home with wonderful memories, and the satisfaction that you lived life to the fullest during your time here.

Optional Day Trips from Krakow

Wieliczka Salt Mine

Prepare to be amazed at the devotion that drove miners to carve figures, monuments, and altar pieces into the walls of an 800-year-old salt mine. This underground world has earned a place on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list, with huge caverns and underground lakes, 135 meters beneath the surface.

Zakopane

We invite you to embark on this full day exciting trip to picturesque Zakopane, a small mountain town located on the foothills of the majestic Tatra mountains. It’s a place known for its snowy slopes, traditional wooden houses, and enchanting mountain range trails. A great time is guaranteed!

Make the Most of Your Time, Before and After Work

Breakfasts of Champions

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, they say. And Krakow has an impressive selection of options whether you want a tasty weekday brekkie or a full-on weekend brunch.

Epic Date Nights

If you’re in Krakow with your significant other, you’ll appreciate that Krakow provides a romantic backdrop for date nights, whether it’s a stroll arm-in-arm, or dinner-a-deux.

Optional Weekend Getaways

For some serious nature time, head to popular day trip destination Zakopane for an overnight. If you’re missing big city life then Polish capital Warsaw is a high-speed train ride away. Check out Krakow’s “little sister” Wroclaw, a buzzing student city, or tick off another country by nipping into Ukraine for some time in the country’s funnest city, Lviv.

Departure Day

With such an action-packed time, your month in Krakow will fly by and sadly it’s time to leave. But where to? Back home? Or another Workation destination? And if you fell in love with the Polish lifestyle, we can hook you up with an immigration assistance agency, and even a realtor. Plenty to think about on the short ride to the airport, as our driver whisks you off for your departing flight.
