We want to make sure you get the most out of your time in Split, so we’ll ask about your interests, what you want to see and do, eating choices, any equipment you’ll need, and what kind of work schedule you want to keep. We’ll provide you plenty ideas and suggestions for your free time.

Your Personalized Destination Guide Web App

After booking you will receive a personalized destination guide web app we’ve customized for your Workation. You’ll find a wealth of information in there about Split, things to do, and the many services available to make your life easier. We also blog regularly about Split, covering a wide variety of topics of interest to anyone workationing there. If there’s anything you need more help with, just ask your Local Hero!

Arriving in Split

Welcome to Croatia! Upon your arrival at Split Airport, a driver will meet you and drive you to your apartment. The drive takes about 30 minutes. Depending on your arrival time your Split Local Hero will meet you after you check-in, or the following morning. At this time they will provide you with a local SIM complete with data as well as a public transport pass to cover you for the duration of your stay.

You’ll appreciate the dedicated workspace in your apartment, and the reliable high speed wifi. We can arrange for an external screen or other tech accessories to increase your productivity. We will also stock your apartment with all the necessities (e.g condiments, bathroom essentials, cleaning supplies) to start your stay off smoothly. You’ll be pleased to note that weekly cleanings are included in the price.

Orientation Walk
with Your Local Hero

Upon arrival, your local hero will help you get settled and show you around your new neighborhood. She will inform you about what this part of the city has to offer. You will be introduced to the local shops, bars, and restaurants as well as other facilities such as gyms, parks, and other entertainment based on your specific needs. She’ll also help you get a feel for your location and the connections to other parts of the city using your public transportation pass. She’ll even help you install some useful local apps. You’ll get information about other useful services like dry cleaning and food/grocery delivery. We will make sure you are well prepared to make the most of your Workation ahead!

During your stay in Split

We’ve got you covered with endless additional ideas and services to make the most of your stay. You can request any of the optional extra tours, excursions and getaways to be added to your Workation package now, or at any point after booking.

If you prefer the buzz of a workplace atmosphere, we can include a month’s co-working pass, with either a fixed desk assignment of flex-desk. Split has several co-working spaces to choose from and we can help you pick one that suits you not just in terms of location but also the kind of people you’ll be sharing office space with. That makes it an ideal way to meet locals and other remote workers too.

We can include a month’s membership at a well equipped gym close to your apartment in your Workation package to help you keep up good habits from home.

If you’re already working with a personal trainer, you know how invaluable they can be to insure you maximize your workouts. We realize finding an English-speaking trainer who understands your needs isn’t always easy in Split, so we’ve done our research. For an additional fee, we will arrange a private personal trainer for you to better keep in shape.

We are able to arrange a variety of experiences which will both immerse you in the local culture and provide unforgettable memories. Split is known for sailing and boating so we are happy to arrange a day out, a sunset cruise or to get you behind the wheel with sailing lessons. Otherwise pick up a new language, perfect your favorite sport or try something new, discover your talent with dance or music lessons, indulge yourself in spa & wellness treatments or hire a business coach. The options are endless and we are happy to help you take full advantage of your time away.

Your first weekend: Getting to Know Split

If you’ve been working hard all week, now is the time to appreciate your surroundings and mingle with the locals a little. Your local hero will already have pointed out some of the city’s popular spots for locals and foreigners. It being your first weekend, it’s time to do the touristy thing and we’ve got some suggestions for how to spend the whole day in and around the old town of Split. After a walking tour that’ll give you some historical and cultural background, you could enjoy the atmosphere within the walls of the 16-centuries-old Diocletian’s Palace, or take advantage of Split’s seaside location and hit the beach, your Split local hero will happily make some suggestions. If you prefer to stay on dry land, a gentle hike up Marjan Hill will reward you with sweeping views of Split.

Split has a history that goes back to the Romans. Today we recommend you meet with an experienced local guide to see what the city has to offer. This 1.5-hour tour will show you the city’s most fascinating sites and give you a sense of how Split is laid out. Your guide will pick you up at your hotel and show you the UNESCO-listed 1,700-year-old Diocletian’s palace, the Cathedral of Saint Duje with its amazing cellars, the famous Golden Gate, Roman temples, and much more. The city will come alive for you like never before.

Just a short walk out of Split center you can arrive at many of the city’s beaches, a great place to cool off in warmer months. Our other tip for an afternoon is to take a leisurely hike up Marjan Hill. From here you’ll enjoy the sweeping vista over the city and Split’s harbor.

Explore Dalmatian cooking and ingredients with the help of local experts. You can enjoy wine and olive oil tastings, getting to know the homemade breads and goat cheeses that go best with them. Or, if you’re feeling a bit more peckish, sit at the chef’s table, and try five traditional Dalmatian tapas. These are quite seasonal, and tend to take advantage of the local seafood. Sitting with the chef, you can learn his techniques and the stories and tasty aims behind each masterful combination of flavors.

Olive Oil & Wine Pairing Class
Enjoy a guided tasting of three types of Dalmatian wines, while finding their perfect pairs in three types of extra virgin olive oil. Naturally, the olive oil is itself paired with homemade bread and goat cheese. This is an offer for wine connoisseurs ready to enrich their wine experience with the tastes and fragrances of extra virgin olive oil.

Chef’s Table Dining Experience
Taste five different traditional Pikuleca dishes paired with two glasses of Croatian wine, and water. This is an interactive dinner, with the chef cooking in front of you in an open kitchen, so you can chat as you watch and eat. Even though the restaurant is open for other people, the chef will prioritize your meal.

Ideas for the rest of your Split Workation

With the sea on one side, several islands just a short ferry ride away and some of the country’s most impressive national parks in easy reach, you won’t be short of options. We’ll help you make the most of your spare time here, so you go home with wonderful memories, and the satisfaction that you lived life to the fullest during your time here.

Optional Day Trips – By Land or Sea

Blue Cave & Hvar Town

There are almost too many attractions in Croatia to fit into one workation, but this is the best opportunity to see many beautiful destinations in a short time. Your destinations, Vis and Hvar, are two of the most beautiful spots in the Adriatic. You’ll explore Komiza, a picture-perfect, authentic fishermen’s village on the Island of Vis, and the historic town of Hvar, the largest town on the island of Hvar.

Krka Waterfalls

Plitvice Lakes might get the most attention, but our tip for a land-based day trip from Split is Krka National Park. The big difference? You’re allowed to swim here! The route along the beautiful coast passes picturesque villages and islands. Krka itself will greet you with crystal clear water, waterfalls, creeks, and lakes. This is the perfect place to relax and get back in touch with nature.

Make the Most of Your Time, Before and After Work

Max Your Mornings

Head out early and get a jump on everyone else with an early morning sea-kayaking session around Marjan Hill. Or tick another UNESCO World Heritage Site off the list by visiting the small ancient walled town of Trogir, a brief coastal-ferry ride away.

Enjoy Your Evenings

Split’s nightlife scene is to be envied (the city hosts Ultra Europe every July), but you don’t need to be dancing the night away to have a good time. The city is well stocked with rooftop bars. These are our top tip for a chilled-out way to unwind after a hard day at the keyboard.

Optional Weekend Getaways

You couldn’t wish for a better location for weekend getaways. The islands of Brac and Hvar are just an hour away by ferry. Another hour or so gets you to the truly unspoilt island of Vis. Hvar’s party reputation, in the summer months at least, means guaranteed fun. Brac is one for exploring and Vis’s laid-back vibes are infectious. Staying on dry land, head north to sun-worshipping Zadar or south to the true jewel of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik.

Departure Day

With such an action-packed time, your month in Split will fly by and sadly it’s time to leave. But where to? Back home? Or another Workation destination? And if you fell in love with Croatia, we can hook you up with an immigration assistance agency, and even a realtor. Plenty to think about on the short ride to the airport, as our driver whisks you off for your departing flight.
