Olomouc could be considered one of the Czech Republic’s best-kept secrets. With a majestic atmosphere stretching from the spired skyline to the cobblestone avenues, the feel of magic instantly welcomes you. Your Workation representative will meet you at the nearest airport and introduce you to your new accommodations during your Czech Republic Workation package. Take your time to explore the amenities that will help you succeed during your time in Olomouc.

After settling in, you can get acquainted with the city with a walk among the historic buildings and along the evocative streets set beneath the ancient figure of Olomouc Castle. If you have time, visit Town Hall for an introduction to 14th-century architecture contrasting the 20th-century astronomical clock, the latter of which was refurbished after the Second World War. The clock’s engine was built in the late 19th century and offers a sensational show every day at noon, lasting for seven minutes.

Focus:
In your new space, take a few deep breaths. Focus on your breathing by observing how it makes you feel. How do the breaths move through your body.  Whenever you find yourself getting distracted, bring your attention back to your breath.

Suggestion:
Olomouc is famous for its cheese. It’s smelly, soft, and very unforgettable. It’s a great way to learn to sample something specific from the city on the day of your arrival.

Olomouc is a charming city and with the entire day yours to explore how you would like, you can visit the religious iconography and opulence sprouting throughout the city. A guide would help explain the significance of each building and the culture surrounding the detailed architecture.

At the Unesco site of the Holy Trinity Column, you can stand beneath the nearly 115-foot tall baroque structure to find Catholic religious motifs, including images of the 12 Apostles. The magnificent figure of St Wenceslas Cathedral looms large over the city with Romanesque features dating back to the 12th century. You can listen to the intriguing stories of the former King of Bohemia as you walk near the organ, an example of musical design from  the Romantic period.

Focus:
Practice mindful listening when someone is speaking to you today. Give them your full attention by listening to their words, observing their body language, and trying to understand their perspective without judgment or an attempt at multitasking.

Suggestion:
When visiting St Michael’s Church, pay attention to the three domes, which act as one of the most distinctive landmarks in the city.

With your first day of work in Olomouc, you can set up a ritual that will help you ease into the workday each morning and also disconnect you from your computer when done. A ritual should combine routine and intention to signal to your brain when it is time to work versus time to play. After the workday is done, you can visit the thrilling complex of Helfstyn Castle.

The ruins demonstrate the wonder of historic strongholds in the region spanning nearly 500 feet wide and over 150 feet long with foundations dating back to the 13th century. In August, the courtyard rings with the sound of blacksmiths celebrating the annual workshop but throughout the year, the castle feels like a window into the past with bastions, open squares, and panoramas sweeping over the forest to the nearby historical towns.

Focus:
Focus on single-tasking by taking one task at a time. Fully immerse yourself in that task and give it your full attention rather than trying to do multiple things at once.

Suggestion:
If you have time, you can visit the Hranice abyss, the deepest chasm in the Czech Republic and the world’s deepest flooded pit cave.

If Helfstyn Castle is a storybook, Bouzov Castle is a fairytale. In the morning, you will once again practice your ritual to set the routine in stone, which will allow you to get into the proper headspace, no matter where you work from. When the workday is complete, you can use the same or a separate ritual to disconnect from your computer and enjoy the remaining day with a visit to Bouzov Castle.

You can quickly see the stunning landscape set beneath elevated castle foundations. The romantic atmosphere feels prevalent amidst the turn of 14th-century architecture featuring sloping rooftops glowing against the surrounding forest with orange. As the setting for many regional films, the glamorous exterior matches the opulent interior, where you can view period furniture and clothing, as well as sample weapons from the 14th to 16th centuries displayed within the Castle Armory.

Focus:
During your workday, take short breaks to stretch, move your body, or take a few deep breaths. This can help you reset and refocus your attention when you return. Not taking breaks can actually ruin your concentration.

Suggestion:
You can climb the watchtower at Bouzov Castle for the best view over the countryside or head to the cellar for the exhibition on dragons and dragonslayers.

By now,  you have your ritual set in place and can move in and out of work at ease throughout the day. When you have completed your projects, you can travel to the town of Litomysl to visit the quiet streets and tour the exceptional castle.  One of the treasures of the Czech Republic is the grand plazas you can find in unexpected places. Litomysl hosts the second-largest square in the country with rainbow-colored buildings lining the borders.

Enjoy the sounds of the active restaurants filling the square with smells of goulash and coffee before you reach the historic castle. The decorative tiles on the castle’s face are not identical and instead have their own individual designs featuring animals, people, fruit, or other symbols to tell them apart. You can walk into the courtyard where the sunlight may reflect off the light stone and enjoy the view of the murals or enter into the halls to view the decorations ranging from a Renaissance style to the 18th-century baroque.

Focus:
When visiting the town of Litomysl, enjoy the walk and the sensation of being outside. Focus on the feeling of your feet on the ground, the movement of your body,  the way the air smells, and the sounds of nature around you.

Suggestion:
If you can stay a little later in the day, you may get the main square mostly to yourself and locals, rather than tourists who visit in the earlier hours, giving you a completely different experience.

The best way to learn about a culture is often through the food. After you have completed your workday and used the ritual to separate your work from your leisure, you can enjoy a food tour of Olomouc. The city has many dishes and recipes relating to its central location in the Czech Republic, it also has regional specialties that set it apart in tradition and flavor.

You can choose to tour the food of Olomouc with a guide for better ideas on what makes each recipe different and why it relates to the city. You may start with a local garlic soup known for its texture and herbaceous aroma. At the end of your culinary discovery, you can try a fresh pastry, which may be combined with the favorite local cheese.

Focus:
If you prefer to enjoy the cheese on its own rather than a food tour of the city, you can visit the celebrated Cheese Museum.

Suggestion:
As you explore the food around Olomouc, use  your senses to ground yourself in the present moment. Take a moment to observe your surroundings by focusing on the sights, sounds, smells, and sensations.

After your workday is done you can celebrate your Czech Republic Workation experience by visiting a selection of microbreweries in Olomouc. The differences in each brewery connect to the different ways they celebrate the beer heritage of the Czech Republic and the local beer culture.

The brewmaster may push the boundaries of tradition with unfiltered and unpasteurized beers, as well as offer specialty seasonal drafts known for essential vitamins. At the end of the day, you could even opt for a visit to Olomouc’s Beer Spa, where you can absorb natural minerals during a relaxing beer bath.

Focus:
Whether you visit the microbreweries or the beer spa, take a moment to scan your body from head to toe, noticing any areas of tension or discomfort. Bring your attention to those areas and see if you can release any of the tension.

Suggestion:
If you have the time, a salt sauna or beer tasting in the Olomouc Beer Spa can be a unique experience to add to your Czech Republic Workation

On your last morning of Workation, you can enjoy a typical coffee in a local cafe to embrace the city’s cafe culture and the morning air. If you have the time, you can revisit your favorite spots around the city or linger beneath the colorful towering Holy Trinity Column.

Your Workation representative will meet you at your accommodation and lead you the airport for your flight home. Instead of traveling home, you could extend your Workation in the Czech Republic or another European country.

Focus:
Take a moment to express gratitude for the time you spent on your Workation in the Czech Republic. This can help shift your focus from stress and negativity to positive emotions, as well as remind you of the experiences you had that have created great memories.

Suggestion:
Prague may be the easiest airport to reach in the Czech Republic but it is not the closest airport to Olomouc. Check the best ways to reach Olomouc before you book your flight.
