Dubrovnik is an inspiring city no matter how many times you visit. The city walls and cobblestone streets of Old Town embody the dreams of fantastical stories and fairytales. Baroque facades line the winding lanes and the panoramas open to images of the glistening Adriatic.

You can enter the city with your private transfer from the airport and quickly get settled into your pre-screened accommodation. Weave through the narrow lanes with a guide for an introductory tour of the city. Walk down the Stradun where cafes and restaurants add layered aromas of lemon zest and fried fish to the sea air.

The buildings date back to the 17th century with shops on the bottom floor and apartments on the upper levels. Once on the city walls, you can simply sit back and enjoy the view over the orange-tiled roofs or the turquoise water.

Focus
Create a ritual that will help you focus during your trip. Integrate it into your morning routine to get started or into your afternoon to help you disconnect and enjoy your Workation.

Suggestion
Enjoy the view from the City Walls as early as possible to enjoy emptier walkways or visit around sunset for the incredible views.

The whole day is yours to explore your interests and enjoy Dubrovnik before the workweek begins. With time to further explore the city during the week, you can set sail on a sailing tour of the Elafiti Islands to really celebrate the combination of land and sea. The archipelago consists of 13 islands, each with its peaceful beaches or charming villages.

On the island of Lopud, it’s easy to wander around the cobbled walkways to visit the fortress or view the summer homes of the former Venetian aristocracy. The 15th-century Franciscan monastery has a stone terrace overlooking the nearby islands, as well as remote paths lined with lemon trees that lead to secluded beaches.

Focus
Close your eyes at Kolocep Island and look for the scents of pine, lemon, and oranges. What other aromas can you find? Allow that combination to become part of the memory of the excursion.

Suggestion
At the island of Lopud, be sure to visit the 15th-century Franciscan monastery to view the priceless art decorating the church.

Cavtat is an easy getaway from Dubrovnik, which makes it the optimal spot to explore after a day at work. Now that you’ve settled into your workspace and routine, you disconnect from the office on the stunning peninsula and its quaint medieval town. The waterfront promenade fills with activity in the afternoon as restaurants offer seating that looks out to the water and the pebbled beaches.

St. Nicholas Church’s tower adds a dramatic touch to the skyline with a shining white facade above the orange-tiled rooftops. Inside, you can find works by the celebrated painter Vlaho Bukovac. The artist’s house has become a museum featuring 200 paintings and other documents relevant to his life.

Focus
Find a painting that speaks to you in the Bukovac Museum. Set your timer for four minutes and try to notice all the details you can that have created the work.

Suggestion
Pick a restaurant on the historic waterfront to enjoy the ambiance and delicious seasonal cuisine served in a number of the restaurants.

Start work early so you can complete your tasks before visiting Peljesac Peninsula. A series of sleepy villages pop up around colorful wildflowers and groves that brim with cypress or pine trees. From the shoreline, you can see the island of Korcula in the near distance. Stop in the town of Ston, which is famous for its seafood.

The patchwork of almond and lemon trees disappears behind the city walls while you explore pedestrian-friendly streets. For a very unique look at the history of the town, you can visit the salt factory that demonstrates how locals have collected salt since Roman times or just enjoy the quiet lapping of water against the coastline at Prapratno.

Focus
Order a glass of wine from a local winery. Let someone guide you through the character you can find, from aromas to body to lingering flavors. Find the right wine for you and take one minute to do nothing but enjoy its characteristics. What do you find?

Suggestion
In addition to great wine, visit an oyster farm in the Bay of Mali Ston where you can learn about oyster cultivation and enjoy a tasting.

The city of Kotor is less than two hours away from Dubrovnik, making it an easy afternoon getaway to the limestone cliffs and deep bay. The city walls rival that of Dubrovnik and create a fairytale look effortlessly connected to the medieval design.

The River Gate still impresses visitors for its size and how it reflects on the still water. Visit the Castle of San Giovanni crowning the city walls and overlooking the bay. If you can, hiking the 1,350 stairs is a challenge but worth it in the afternoon as the sun fades over the bay.

Focus
Hike to the top of San Giovanni Fortress. Set your timer for 10 minutes. Memorize the view.

Suggestion
If you are in Kotor early enough, visit Old Town Market and enjoy the spices, cheese selection, and other local products like olives and a seasonal selection of fruits.

Having a relaxing moment inside Dubrovnik can help rejuvenate your body and mind after working and exploring. After the workday, head to Fort Lovrijenac, an additional stronghold connected to the city walls. The freestanding defense looks out to the sea looming atop the cliff over 121 feet high.

Since the 11th century, the fortress has protected the city with 10 cannons pointed at possible invaders. The dramatic setting was also used often as a filming location for the Game of Thrones series. From the top of the defenses, you can enjoy the sweeping view across the shoreline, water, and horizon, especially at sunset.

Focus
At the top of Fort Lovrijenac, focus on a sound and connect that sound to your surroundings. Notice how that sound makes you feel, how it affects your heart rate or breathing. Does it calm you or make you anxious?

Suggestion
Enjoy a meal at a family-owned restaurant that serves local recipes and ingredients that change with the seasons. Let them guide you on what to order and how to enjoy the food.

If you choose, you can take the entire day off and still barely scratch the surface of your PTO as you head to Kravice Waterfalls in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dramatic, emotional, and secluded, the falls embody the beauty of nature in an idyllic basin.

Step into the cool and refreshing pool where the water shines emerald and get close to the semi-circular cliffs where the falls pour down onto the rocks and feed into the lake. Return from the waterfalls and take the tramway to the top of Srd Hill. The picture-perfect Dubrovnik looks even better from the summit as you take in the view of the rooftops, historic walls, and Elafiti Islands spread across the horizon.

Focus
Unlike waterfalls in Croatia, you can dip into the water at Kravice Waterfalls. Once in the water, close your eyes, take three deep breaths, and count to 10. What can you feel, hear, and smell?

Suggestion
For the best photos of the waterfalls, stand at the flat area across the river from the main entry point.

Dubrovnik has a contemporary culture intermingled with traditional city architecture. You can wake up early and enjoy the city walls or wander around the streets once more before you travel to the airport. Customary bakeries smell of butter and filo dough when they open and cafes percolate with the strong smell of coffee. Take as much time as you can to enjoy yourself by soaking in the beauty of Dubrovnik one last time before the next work week begins.

Focus
Enjoy your last breakfast in Dubrovnik like a local with a pastry filled with custard cream or a slice of cake. Let it be a lasting flavor to connect with your last day in Dubrovnik.

Suggestion
The Dubrovnik Airport is one of the busiest in Croatia. Have your private transfer drop you off at least three hours before your international flight during the peak season to make sure you have time to check-in and get processed through the possible lines.
