Medieval churches, bustling modern cafes, and quiet museums that depict the city’s historic layers, Zadar is a microcosm of Croatia. Both cosmopolitan and historic, when you arrive by your private transfer, you can quickly take to the cobblestone streets and walk along the promenade where you can hear the sounds of the Sea Organ.

Settle into the comforts of the city and find the amenities of your new home for the week filled with amenities that will help you easily work in a new location. Whether taking the time to enjoy the traditional flavors of grilled octopus with a view of the water or interested in spending time in your accommodations, you can quickly get acquainted with the charms, beauty, and pace of Zadar.

Listen to the Sea Organ after your arrival. Close your eyes and enjoy the music. Take a deep breath and let yourself settle into your new home and workplace.

Take your time to watch the Sun Salutation light installation for another perspective on the artistic culture of Zadar.

Take the day to explore the famous boardwalks of Plitvice National Park. The gorgeous collection of turquoise waters and waterfalls has become the picture-perfect embodiment of Croatia’s natural splendor. You can walk along the lower path and listen to the crushing sound of the cascades as you find the smell of wet pine.

The upper trail is another great place from which to view the falls. You can view the 16 terraced lakes as they spill over to create approximately 90 falls around the park. The combination of emerald trees, whitewater, and shimmering greenish-blue lakes create an unforgettable jewel to witness.

Take the boat to reach the upper trail for a fantastic panorama. During the ride, close your eyes for two minutes and listen. What do you hear and what do you feel during the ride across the water?

There is another panoramic view near the upper trail that provides a better overall picture of Plitvice National Park.

Create a routine or a ritual that will help you sink into work easily during your time in Zadar. After the work day ends, you have plenty of time to explore the city and its remarkable layers of history. Step back into ancient Rome by visiting the Roman Forum, where ruins date back to the 1st century BC. The square once acted as the center of daily life for the ancient city where the market and public space harnessed the energy of the society.

As you walk through the city, you can’t miss the Zadar Cathedral. Cafes create a thrilling ambiance as locals sip coffee or wine as the day winds down. You can admire the facade with three entrances and blind arches crowned by two intricate rose windows. For your first great view of the city and coastline, you can climb to the top of the historic bell tower.

Climb the cathedral bell tower. Take in the view and then try to memorize as much as you can of both the image and the feeling.

Depending on the season, visit Kolovare Beach and enjoy the coastal ambiance and gorgeous Adriatic Sea.

Step out of the professional mentality when the work is done and step into the unforgettable world of fantasy in the Museum of Illusions. The galleries will twist your perception and possibly inspire you to look at the world differently.

From optical illusions to holograms, you may find clones or trick rings, fall into bottomless holes or wind your way through a room of mirrors. Enjoy the environment that offers hands-on experiences. After your visit, you can return to the promenade to see how your engagement with the view may have changed as you watch the water lap at the edges of the city.

Practice gratitude while in the museum. Spend two minutes focusing on what you are grateful for while surrounded by illusions.

For dinner, try shrimp or lobster in a buzara sauce for a traditional taste of the city and its coastal setting.

With lush vegetation, rugged outcroppings, and bursts of color that break across the sky, you can take the trails of Paklenica National Park after work for a relaxing exploration of the landscape. You can travel the easy path through Velika Paklenica to find the wide valley with stairs that ascend easily up the canyon wall. The result – you’ll end up at the top of the steppe with an exceptional view of your surroundings. You can feel as though you’ve conquered a mountain with a panorama of limestone walls and jade blankets pouring over the ledges.

Or you could travel downard, choosing to explore the stalactites and stalagmites of Manita Pec Cave. When you return to Zadar, you can simply slip back into relaxation with the sounds of the sea and the smells of the pastries spilling out of the cafes.

Listen to the eco or find the quiet of Manita Pec Cave. What do the sounds or absence of sounds make you feel?

If you have time, follow the Paklaric Educational Track with a Belvedere for a great panoramic view.

Finish work early and head to the largest and safest natural harbor in Croatia at  Prirode Telašćica Park. With around 15 trails, you can run, hike, or cycle for incredible panoramas sweeping across coastal cliffs, greenish-blue water, and emerald treetops. If you follow the trail to Dugi Otok, you can find the rocky outcroppings standing over 528 feet above sea level.

Follow the loop that travels over two miles near Sali and listen for birds or simply indulge in the unfettered sea air from the Adriatic and the salt lake fed by underground channels. If you have time, you can sit back on Skrac beach and enjoy the fading light.

Follow a trail and find a quiet space. Check-in with your body. What do you notice? Where are you holding tension? Do you feel heavy or light? Do the surroundings add or take away from what you are feeling?

For an alternative trail, you can cycle Lake Mir and Stene for a great view of the trees and crystal-clear water.

Take the full day of PTO to enjoy a Zrmanja River excursion. The adventure can take you outside of Zadar and onto the roaring rapids in a kayak. No matter your experience level, you will create an unforgettable experience as you listen to teh water crashing and feel the mist hit your skin while your guide leads you down river.

You can leap from the kayak and into the cool mountain water in the presence of the crashing waterfall. The falls reach a height of nearly 30 feet tall and offer a great blend of serene scenery and white noise that helps pull you away from thoughts of work. Once back in the kayak, roll down the river and over the rapids, rowing with the whitewater and enjoying the thrill of the ride.

Fire up your five senses while in your kayak. Take one minute to notice what you smell, hear, taste, touch, and see. What sense feels the strongest when kayaking?

Enjoy coffee like a local by grabbing a cup at a popular cafe.

Zadar has become a hotbed of cafes serving local specialities including rich and flavorful coffees. Enjoy the sights, sounds, and flavors of the city in the morning as the locals return to the streets. You can relax with plenty of time before you transfer to the airport for your flight home. You can return before the work week starts for a chance to settle back into life at home with great memories of your Workation in Croatia.

Before setting out to the airport, observe your thoughts. Don’t judge, but notice what you are thinking about, what feelings the thoughts bring up, and where they may be coming from. Take five minutes.

Zadar Airport opens at six am, so try to book a flight later in the day to keep you from needing to reach the airport too early.
